Faux bamboo writing table, Gouffé Jeune
This suite comes from the Gouffé Jeune workshops in the faubourg Saint-Antoine, Paris, in the age of Japonisme: after the 1867 Exposition Universelle, Paris fell for Japan. Pale wood is turned and carved to imitate the nodes and joints of bamboo to the life, and broad bird's-eye maple panels, hand-painted with birds and flowers, carry the decoration. From the same suite, sold separately: the lift-top cabinet (HM-040), the commode (HM-041) and the bookcase (HM-043).
